Improved At-Home Care Routine
Your restoration requires a daily hygiene routine to ensure its continued success. Brush at least twice a day for two minutes to prevent the buildup of plaque. Floss at least once a day to clear tight spaces of debris and build-up. Swish with water after eating to clear the mouth of sugar and acids that cause bacteria.
Do not neglect your hygienic routine, especially with restorations present in your smile. Cavities, gingivitis, and other complications can cause your restoration to fail and need replacement.
Topical Fluoride
Topical fluoride is provided on the surfaces of the teeth, and this application is usually done in the office after your teeth are cleaned. Fluoride dentifrice are agents used with a toothbrush to clean, whiten and polish natural teeth. They can also
be in different forms like paste, powder, gel or liquid. Gel solutions adhere to the teeth and eradicate the continuous dampening of enamel surfaces required when solutions are used; while other foam solutions are developed to lower the risk of fluoride
overdose as well as to maintain the efficacy of topical fluoride treatment. Topical fluoride application does not need suctioning, making it applicable to be done at home, too. When applying fluoride as a home remedy, remember to rinse your mouth thoroughly
for perfectly cleaned gums and teeth!
Fluoride Dietary Supplements
Tooth decay and cavities are the most common dental health problems experienced worldwide. However, a recent discovery shows that the rate of patients suffering from tooth decay and cavities has dramatically dropped, as a result of continuous intake and
application of fluoride. Fluoride helps repair the initial stages of tooth decay even before the decay develops. In small and regulated amounts, it is as safe and effective as any other nutrients. Fluoride dietary supplements are also being developed
to increase the strength of the enamel covering on the tooth prevent more serious oral health problems. If you wish to avail fluoride dietary supplements, it is important to first ask your dentist if supplements are safe and compatible to be included
in your dietary needs.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings painted on the chewing exteriors of the molars and premolars to protect the tooth from harmful bacteria and decay. This procedure is designed to be an aid in deterring cavities, particularly in children. The teeth
are given a coating, which is a painless procedure done without anesthetic. While frequent brushing and daily flossing can get rid of food deposits and plaque from the tooth’s surfaces and canals, the bristles cannot fully reach into all the corners
and crevices of your gums and teeth. As such, the sealants rapidly bond into the indentations, canals, and grooves of the tooth, thus forming an effective shield over the enamel of the tooth and inhibiting plaque build-up.
Regular Appointments
Visit Happy Smiles Family Dental - Dalia Nosrati Cohen, DDS for a check-up at least every six months. At these check-up appointments, we look for signs of developing complications. Catching problems early on is the best way to prevent more complex issues from developing. If you notice a sign yourself, such as tooth pain, call and make an appointment with us at your earliest convenience.
Conscientious Care
Restorations are beautiful and functional, but they do not have the regenerative abilities of natural enamel. That means damage sustained is permanent. Avoid chewing ice, biting fingernails, grinding teeth, or using teeth as tools in any sense (as in, opening bottles). If you have one or more of these habits, consider methods to stop them as soon as possible.
Dental Implants
It’s important to take certain steps that ensure the dental implant placement process is successful. If a dental implant is replacing a failing tooth, it’s crucial to keep the extraction site clean and protected while it heals. Antibacterial mouthwash and swishing with saline can help. These products will be useful throughout the dental implant process, as they are also useful after the post has been inserted.
If you’re healing from a bone grafting procedure, it’s important that the new bone site remains undisturbed. Avoid chewing with or around the bone graft site as much as possible.
Once the crown is placed and the implant is completed, implement a thorough daily maintenance routine. Implant restorations should be brushed and flossed twice a day, just like natural teeth.
